Pontianak

Hi! I would like to describe you about Pontianak, West Borneo. When i was 8 years old, i lived there for 2 months. Although only 2 months, staying there is very memorable for me. Pontianak is a capital of West Borneo, we can go there by airplane and land at Supadio Airport, at the time i lived near the airport. The area near the airport is air force area starts from housing, hospitals, air force base, and others.

From airport to the city takes thirty minutes by car or motorcycle or bicycle, but bicycle takes more time than use motorcycle or car, and there are still many people who use bicycle to go wherever they want. Pontianak is not a city with many vehicles and traffic jams on every street. West kalimantan has large forest, so there are lots of trees around houses and city streets.

Pontianak has an iconic monument, named Equator Monument that build 1928, and open for public since 21st September 1999. This monument is one of the most visited tourist icons of Pontianak.

Unlike in Bandung, Pontianak only have 2 malls and at that time its not complete as mall in Bandung. That 2 malls are Ayani Mall and Matahari mall. Ayani is a biggest mall in Pontianak, at that time i really love to go to that place because it is very fun.

Also do you ever hear about Kapuas River? Kapuas River is a longest river in Indonesia that locate in West Borneo. My friend said, "if you already drink Kapuas water, you will feel at home and want to always comeback here."

And last, don't forget to buy souvenir if you go to Pontianak. To buy some souvenir in Pontianak, you can go to Pattimura street there are many souvenir store that sell pontianak souvenir, aloevera snack, also malaysian snack (because pontianak is near johor baru, and only take 5 hours with bus to go there), and other.

That is all about pontianak, if you go there then you can share your experience too. :)
